Seattle, WA. – The San Diego Padres fell to the Seattle Mariners 4-3 on Wednesday night, dropping the series in a hard-fought battle at T-Mobile Park. With the loss, the Padres were unable to secure the series win after splitting the first two games.

As was the case in the previous two matchups, both teams showcased their offensive firepower from the very first inning of all three games, keeping constant pressure on the opposing pitchers.

Mariners Strike Early Against Yu Darvish

In the decisive third game, Yu Darvish took the mound for the Padres, but Seattle’s bats began to wear him down by the third inning. It was Raley who struck first with an RBI double, scoring Eugenio Suárez to put the Mariners on the board.

The decisive blow came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Eugenio Suárez delivered a three-run home run with two men on base, extending the Mariners’ lead to 4-0. This marked the end of the night for Darvish, as he exited the game after completing four innings.

Padres Rally But Fall Short

The Padres fought back fiercely in the later innings. In the sixth, Gavin Sheets delivered a clutch RBI single with two runners on base, scoring Ramón Laureano to cut the deficit to 4-1. Later in the same inning, with the bases loaded, Jake Cronenworth was hit by a pitch from Speier, bringing home another run to make it 4-2.

In the ninth inning, the Padres mounted one final push to tie the game. Cronenworth nearly hit a game-tying home run, but the ball hit the wall, resulting in a double. A subsequent hit by Fernando Tatis Jr. brought Cronenworth home, narrowing the score to 4-3. Tatis Jr. then stole third base, putting the tying run just 90 feet away. However, with the game on the line, Laureano was unable to deliver the equalizer, leaving the final score at 4-3 in favor of the Mariners.

Looking Ahead

The Padres will now travel to Minnesota to face the Twins in a three-game series. They’ll aim to regain their winning form after suffering three losses in their last four games.
